Are you Fascinated by the Night Sky? (But don't know what you are looking at...)

This course will give you a full understanding of what you can see in the night sky. It will cover from when certain constellations are visible and how to find your way around the night sky to the ancient astronomers and current Cosmology. This is a complete course in Astronomy that will leave you informed and fascinated about the universe and all it's wonders.

Who is the course suitable for?

Are you the sort of person who likes to take a deep dive into a subject? To find out all you can about how it works? Do you live with wonder and awe about the universe we live in?

Then this is the course for you. The aim is not to patronise you with surface level descriptions. Intead, complete explanations and examples are given. Observational projects are included. Past students have been as young as 11 up to mature adults.

Examples of Student Work

Students of the course have the opportunity to carry our astronomical investigations. This can include determining from observations how fast the Sun is rotating to how features on the moon appear to change with the height of the Sun in the Lunar sky.
Included below are images from previous student portfolios.

Student Portfolios

The images are observations and records from past pupils of the course, and include investigations into:
  • What is the best lunar phase to view a given lunar feature.
  • How to make safe measurements of sunspots to determine how fast the Sun is rotating.
  • How to compare the colour and brightness of stars in different constellations of the night sky.

Selection of Images from Inside the Course

The images below are a selection of screenshots from inside the course player that are available to you when you enroll. The resource types include:
  • Video lessons that simulate the universe and night sky.
  • Information on how to pick the correct telescope.
  • PDFs, ebooks and downloads.
  • 'How to' guides on carrying out observations.
  • Guides to the night sky.

  • Quizzes with immediate feedback.
  • Guides to making different models to help you understand.
